Botanical description 

The specimen type is preserved in the Herbarium of the University of Montpellier 2 ( MPU code , Institute of Botany) 1 .

Vegetative apparatus 

Olea europaea subsp. Laperrinei can reach a height of 1.5 to 3 m and its trunk is mainly monocaule.
The leaves are lanceolate-linear to linear, 2.8 to 4.5 / 7 cm long and 0.3 / 0.5 to 1 / 1.5 cm wide. They are ash green on top and whitish / silvery on the underside. Their apex is clearly mucronate. The medial rib is flattened or canaliculate, the petiole is 0.2 to 0.4 cm long.

Reproductive System 

The flowers have a diameter of 4 to 6 mm, they are white with bracts present and well developed. The fruits are gathered in panicles. They are ovoid to spherical, measuring 4 to 5 mm in diameter and 5 to 8 mm in length. The pulp is purplish in color (Médail et al., 2001). This olive tree rarely flowers and, consequently, produces little fruit.

Location 

L'Olive de Laperrine lives in altitude, between 1400 and 2800 m, where the average annual precipitation is 50 to 100 mm.
In Africa , it is present in the Sahara, in:
·         North Africa  : Algeria (massifs of Hoggar , Mouyedir , Tefedest and Tassili n'Ajjer ),
·         Northeastern tropical Africa : Sudan (Djebel Marra),
·         Tropical West Africa : Niger (Massif de l'Aïr).
